Recognising and Responding to Financial Abuse

How common is financial abuse in Australia? What is financial abuse and how should you respond?


The course runs over two half-days. Both sessions are held online and will be delivered on the following dates and times:

Part 1: Thursday 21 April 2022, 9.15am-12:15pm

Part 2: Friday 22 April 2022, 9.15am-12.15pm

WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR?

This training is for people from local authorities, utility companies, financial institutes, money/debt advice services, insurance industry, real estate and housing sector, and customer support and community workers.

COURSE CONTENT

WIRE are experts in understanding Financial Abuse and this highly regarded training will provide you with a deep understanding in recognising and responding to financial abuse.

This training aims to raise awareness of financial abuse and provide an opportunity for participants to consider how they can contribute to the economic safety of victim-survivors.

Participants will be empowered to support staff and clients who are experiencing family violence, and they’ll be equipped to provide referrals to appropriate support services.

• The root causes of family violence

• Who experiences family violence in Australia

• Recognising different types of financial abuse

• Increased confidence to respond to the impact of financial abuse on the victim-survivor

• Confidence in the belief that your work can minimise harm and make a difference to victim-survivors and their long-term economic safety

• Knowledge of how creating economic stability and independence underpins physical safety

• Practical communication tools when talking to victim survivors of family violence

• What you can do to be a part of the change.

WIRE COURSE FORMAT

Our Online training is an interactive and collaborative e-learning experience facilitated by two expert trainers. The session includes group discussion and exercises in online break-out groups.
