What is WIRE?
The Women’s Information and Referral Exchange (known as WIRE) is an organisation run by women for women in Victoria. WIRE provides free, confidential information, support and referrals to women via a telephone helpline, by email and at the Women’s Information Centre in Melbourne’s city centre.
Women of any age can contact WIRE about anything at all, big or small. We can help you find a female doctor, lawyer or counsellor. We can also help you find community and welfare services you might need such as community health centres, housing services, and employment services.
Phone WIRE
Telephone 1300 134 130 between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday for the cost of a local call from anywhere in Victoria (normal mobile phone rates apply).
Call 13 36 77 TTY National Relay Service if you have hearing difficulties.
Translators available
If you would prefer to talk to WIRE in your own language we have a Telephone Interpreter Service available. When you call ask for a translator. We will take your number and call you back once we have someone who speaks your language on the phone to translate for us.
What can you talk to WIRE about?
- Problems at home
- Health and well-being
- How to get legal advice
