About the survey
Women’s Information Services believe that it is important to investigate issues that affect women entering and remaining in the paid workforce and gaining better work conditions once they are employed.

We know that women face different barriers to securing paid work. We also know that historically women have not performed as well in individual bargaining to achieve better workplace conditions.

Given that women tend to work in industries with low rates of unionisation, improving women’s capacity to bargain is a critical issue that needs to be addressed if we are ever to achieve pay equity. Women currently earn on average 16.2% less than men and the gap has begun to widen again over the past decade.

Women’s Information Services around Australia have developed this survey to find out:

  • What women know about their workplace conditions

  • What barriers women face in entering the paid workforce

  • What assists women to enter the workforce

  • Has the Global Financial Crisis impacted on women’s employment conditions?

  • What would best assist women to be more informed about employment matters

Part A is designed to find out the information needs of women in relation to their workplace conditions.

Part B is designed to find out about the barriers that women face in terms of workforce participation

A report with recommendations will be tabled at the national Women’s Advisors Meeting later this year.

Results of the survey will be published on this website. To keep informed subscribe to the WIRE email bulletin.
